The Big Brothers Big Sisters 1:1 Traditional Mentoring program is a long term community based mentoring program, where young people 6-16 years old are matched with adult mentors (18 years+) based on similar interests and lived experiences. The young people in this program are facing adversities in their lives (mental health challenges, social emotional challenges, struggles at school, behaviour challenges, etc), and are in need of an additional role model to help them buffer this stress, and help them discover and achieve their full potential. This long term relationship can have a lifelong impact on both the mentee and the mentor.
Matches connect out in the community once per week for a few hours, and participate in free to low-cost activities that include but are not limited to hiking, going to parks, playing sports, playing board games and card games, doing arts & crafts, skating, cooking and exploring their community.
